How To Unlock an iPhone

2938805598_6799055f1a_m.jpg You just bought an iPhone or had one sent to you from abroad only to insert your SIM card and BAM! The “SIM card not detected” or “no SIM card detected” error greets you. This could be rather confusing and frustrating to say the least so in this guide, I’ll be breaking down how to unlock the iPhone so you can fix the issue all by yourself.
What does it mean to unlock an iPhone?
Unlocking an iPhone is the removal of SIM restrictions placed on the iPhone by its carrier. The aim of unlocking an iPhone is to be able to use any service provider / SIM card on the iPhone. There are two types of unlocking
  • Hardware unlock: Involves manipulating hardware components of the iPhone (not recommended for novices).
  • Software unlock Involves the use of software and is much easier than the hardware unlock.
Why are some iPhones locked to a particular SIM card or carrier?
When you purchase an iPhone from a particular carrier as part of a promo or plan, that carrier locks the iPhone to itself so you can’t use any other service provider on that iPhone. Looking at it from a businessman’s perspective, it makes sense (more users = more money); but, from a user’s perspective, it sucks!
What are the things to consider before unlocking an iPhone
  • Be sure that the service provider / carrier you’re about to migrate to supports the iPhone’s technology.
  • Check your firmware (OS) version and Baseband (Modem) version
How do I check my iPhone’s OS version?
Go to Settings > General > About > Version
What is jailbreaking?
Jailbreaking an iPhone is similar to rooting an Android. To jailbreak an iPhone means to manipulate its firmware to make it run unsigned code and give a user access to files which Apple normally wouldn’t grant access to. One common benefit of jailbreaking an iPhone is the ability to install apps from sources other than Apple store.
Is it legal or illegal to jailbreak an iPhone?
Apple claims that jailbreaking is an infringement of its copyright but I don’t know of any average iPhone user who has been sued for jailbreaking.
What is the difference between jailbreaking and unlocking?
Jailbreaking involves lifting firmware restrictions (file access permissions) while unlocking involves lifting carrier restrictions (SIM / carrier lock)
What are the benefits of jailbreaking an iPhone?
Jailbreaking voids your warranty but some of its benefits are the ability to:
  • Install 3rd party applications rejected by Apple for various reasons
  • Do video recording (now available on the iPhone 3GS)
  • Change the look and feel by installing custom graphics and themes
  • Do free tethering
  • Get access to cracked App Store apps for free
  • Unlock your iPhone
How do I jailbreak an iPhone?
To jailbreak an iPhone, simply follow this guide @ https://forum.hovatek.com/thread-124.htm
How do I unlock an iPhone?
Alright, let’s get down to unlocking your iPhone.
  • You need to jailbreak the iPhone (see method above)
  • Once you have jailbroken your device, download and install the Ultrasn0w 6.1 package. To do so, launch Cydia and click Manage. Then select Sources > Edit and choose Add this repo: http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com
  • Go to Cydia Search and search for official Ultrasn0w Fixer 6.1 then install it.
  • Go to Search again and search for Ultrasn0w v1.2.8. Download and install it by adding the repo http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com
  • Once the Ultrasn0w package is installed, reboot your iPhone.
  • After the device is rebooted, wait for the carrier network signal to show up.
  • After the carrier network signal appears, your iPhone will be unlocked with Ultrasn0w Fixer for iOS 6.1. Now, you should be able to switch your carrier SIM.
After unlocking an iPhone, what next, what should i do or not do?
You are strongly advised to avoid updating your iTunes or firmware (OS) version as this could result in your iPhone getting locked again…. back to square one.

How to Back Up Your iPhone with iTunes on Mac

Its a good practice to back up your iPhone device. Here’s how to back up your iPhone with iTunes on Mac.
Backing up your iPhone saves all of your apps, photos, settings, etc. so that if something bad were to happen to your iPhone, you could get your apps and settings back whenever you fixed it. This is important because sometimes your iPhone can just die, especially if you have an older iPhone. If you don’t have it backed up, you’ll lose all of your apps, photos, and settings.
However, not only do you need to back up your iPhone, you need to do it regularly if the contents on your iPhone change frequently. Many times, users will back up their iPhones maybe once a month or even every couple of months and call it good, but if you’re constantly downloading new apps and taking more and more photos, all of that information needs to be safely backed up on a regular schedule.

Backing Up Your iPhone

The process for backing up your iPhone is really easy and anyone can learn how to do it. There are no prerequisite steps to take either — just plug in your iPhone, fire up iTunes, and back it up.
iPhone 6s Plus Release Date
Backing up through iTunes will back up everything, whereas an iCloud backup will only backup a select number of things, like photos and settings.
To back up your iPhone using iTunes, follow the simple steps below.
First off, plug in your iPhone to your Mac and then open up iTunes. From the main screen in iTunes, click on the iPhone icon toward the top-left of the window.
iphone-backup-itunes-mac-3
This will take you to the device summary page in iTunes where you’ll see info about your iPhone, including your device’s serial number, as well as when the last time you backed up your iPhone was. You can also take a closer look at your storage and see what’s all taking up space.
From this page, simply click on Back Up Now to begin the backup process. If you want to encrypt the backup (that is, secure with a password) you can select that option to the left. This will also allow you to back up account passwords and health data.
iphone-backup-itunes-mac-4
From there, you might receive a pop up saying that there are apps on your iPhone that aren’t in your iTunes library, which means they aren’t backed up. You can click on Back Up Apps to back up all of the apps on your iPhone, which is recommended.
iphone-backup-itunes-mac-2
At this point, the backup process will begin, which could take a while — maybe around 20 minutes or so depending on how much stuff needs backed up. If you have only a few files that need backed up, it’ll only a minute or two, whereas if everything needs backed up, it could take a while.
iphone-backup-itunes-mac-1
After the process completes, you’ll be good to go and you can close out of iTunes and unplug your iPhone.
Again, once you back up your iPhone, you’ll want to make it a habit to frequently back up if you’re constantly downloading new apps, taking photos, and changing around settings.
However, if you’re like me and store most of your important files in the cloud, including photos, then you may only need to back up your iPhone every once in a while. I rarely download new apps and most of my settings stay the same, so I have little reason to back up my device every single week, but other users may want to.

Apple is reportedly working on truly wireless earbuds for the iPhone 7

Purely wireless earbuds are eventually becoming a reality coming as from the looks of things, it would not be taking long before tech’s biggest company unveils its own pair. The report is loud that Apple is working on a premium set of entirely wireless earbuds — under the Beats brand — with solid hope that the earbuds could debut alongside the iPhone 7 later this 2016.
Expecting wonders from the iPhone7
Expecting wonders from the iPhone7
Said to be included in the Apple’s earbuds is “a noise-cancelling microphone system” which will give users the opportunity to interact with the iPhone and control Siri completely and also wirelessly too. From the sources we gathered the information from, Apple’s current concept shares resemblance with what we’ve seen (which did well to impress) from Bragi at CES this week. And they are recharged in the circumstance of being placed inside a carrying case, close to the Motorola Hint.
It is agreeably understood that these premium headphones will be not be a present or mandatory acquisition as it will be an optional purchase as it will not be coming bundled with the iPhone 7; rather, an improved pair of EarPods are baking in Apple’s oven to be included in the box. Most likely those will plug into the Lightning port, because off course, Apple really is (probably) disposing of the services of the headphone jack. Buckets of rumors have all outlined the prospects of Bluetooth headphones as well as others sourcing operational power from Apple’s Lightning jack.
Also there is the possibility that Apple will introduce the iPhone 7 this September , probably months after a mid-cycle push-in of the smaller-sized “iPhone 6C” which according to rumors is priming for release this March.
However, Apple’s said to be looking at several designs for the new flagship, with a particular clue that “substantially” looks like the iPhone 6 / 6S.
